In a newly released video marking what would have been his mother’s 100th birthday, King Charles III said he believes Queen Elizabeth II would have been deeply concerned about the state of the world today.
The message, shared by Buckingham Palace on Tuesday (21 April), commemorated the late Queen’s centenary. She passed away in September 2022 at Balmoral Castle at the age of 96, after an unprecedented 70-year reign. Following her death, Charles became king, making history as the oldest person to ascend the British throne.
Events are being held throughout the week to honor her legacy, including gatherings with charities and organizations she supported, such as Cancer Research UK and Army Benevolent Fund.
In his tribute, Charles described his “darling Mama” as unwavering in her dedication, highlighting how she remained steady and committed to public service throughout her long reign. At the same time, he reflected on current global tensions and domestic challenges, suggesting they would have weighed heavily on her.
He reaffirmed his own commitment to duty, saying he continues to draw strength from her belief that goodness ultimately prevails and that better times are always within reach. He also referenced a message she gave as a young princess, encouraging everyone to contribute to building a happier future.
Some believe his comments may have alluded not only to global conflicts, like the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, or rising tensions in the Middle East, but also to personal challenges within the royal family, including issues involving his brother Prince Andrew and his past connections to Jeffrey Epstein.
The King also reflected on the immense impact his mother had, noting that her life spanned a period of enormous global change, yet she remained a constant figure of stability. He pointed out that millions remember her for major national moments, while others recall small, personal encounters, whether it was a kind word or a brief smile. He even mentioned her lighthearted appearance with Paddington Bear in her final months, which became a beloved memory.
He ended his message by encouraging people of all backgrounds to follow her example and focus on building a more peaceful and hopeful future. Speaking directly to her, he closed with a heartfelt tribute, saying she remains forever in the hearts and prayers of those she left behind.
